Navajo Bridge Star Party


Schedule of Events

Enjoy two nights of astronomical wonder suspended above the Colorado River in Marble Canyon. Astronomers and Park Rangers will offer a variety of activities bringing the vastness of space within our reach.

Bring blankets and chairs for evening programs. Navajo Bridge Interpretive Center is a waterless facility. Water will be sold until the store closes at 8pm or you're invited to bring your own.

Friday, October 21st

  • 2:00pm solar viewing at Navajo Bridge
  • 6:30pm "Astronomical Forces of Nature" special evening program with Ranger Noel Allen in the Navajo Bridge Interpretive Center
    • Night sky viewing begins on historic Navajo Bridge
  • 7:00pm "Fireside History of Marble Canyon" with Floyd Stevens
  • 7:30 - 9pm Constellation tours and junior ranger astronomy activities

Saturday, October 22nd

  • 8:00am Archeo-astronomy hike with Art Cloutier (ONLY 9 spots available. See below for registration)
  • 6:30pm "Astronomy 101: Everything You Need to Know for Beginning Astronomy" with Ranger Kara Baker
    • Night sky viewing begins on historic Navajo Bridge
  • 7:00pm "Fireside History of Marble Canyon" with Floyd Stevens
  • 7:30 - 9pm Constellation tours and junior ranger astronomy activities

Paria Petroglyph Hike

Astro enthusiast Art Cloutier provides a look at the history of astronomy in the Southwest on this 6 mile hike through Paria Canyon. Register for this free hike by clicking "Add to Cart". Registered hikers will meet at the Navajo Bridge Interpretive Center by 8:00 am, Saturday, October 22nd.

Be advised, there is no maintained trail. Participants will travel over uneven terrain and across the Paria River several times. The Paria River is still flowing with water. Wear appropriate shoes and dress in layers. Pack water and food; the hike is expected to last approximately 5-6 hours.
